Renault 5 Turbo 3E: Bringing the Turbo Legacy into the Electric Age
Renault revives its rally icon with 540 hp and bold design

Renault is tapping into nostalgia with the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, a modern electric take on its legendary 1980s hot hatch.
The original Renault 5 Turbo was a game-changer, putting a turbocharged engine in a small, aggressive chassis designed for rally domination.
The new Turbo 3E keeps that spirit alive but replaces the internal combustion engine with a 540-horsepower dual-motor electric setup. This isn’t just a styling exercise. The Turbo 3E is built for performance, launching from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 167 mph.
With an unladen weight of 1,450 kg and a race-focused design, it promises the kind of handling that made the original a cult classic. Unlike its predecessor, the Turbo 3E benefits from rapid charging, going from 15% to 80% in just 15 minutes. Renault is limiting production to 1,980 units, a nod to the original Turbo’s release year. Buyers will have access to extensive customization, with bespoke liveries designed by Renault’s team.
The exterior draws inspiration from the past but updates it with futuristic LED lighting and aggressive aerodynamic tweaks. The wide stance, large rear wing, and squared-off front end give it an unmistakable presence on the road. This move isn’t just about celebrating history. Renault is using the Turbo 3E to showcase its commitment to performance EVs, proving that electric cars can have as much personality and excitement as their gas-powered predecessors.
